My students need copies of the novel "Flowers for Algernon" and a student guide to accompany them. We also need colored pencils to make creative projects and book covers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic, but often lack motivation to work on their classwork. They also need support with English speaking and listening. Most are English Learners and are struggling in their English Language Arts class.
My students come from a diverse school in a large city.
Part of the school is a magnet with students from all over the city. My students, however, are comprised mainly of residential students from the local low-income neighborhood. Most are English Learners as well.
My Project
We need copies of the novel "Flowers for Algernon" because our current class set of novels is too small for each student to have their own copy. This science fiction classic is loved by the student every year we read it.
Along with reading, the student are encouraged to show art and creativity for their projects.
For example, they are asked to think of and draw and new cover for the book. The colored pencils are needed for these assignments. The colored pencils will also be used in other creative assignments during the school year.
This is a popular class unit every year; please help us have enough supplies.
