Ms. Pietruszka from Madison WI is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Hokki stools and moveable beanbags instead of plastic chairs in order to help keep them focused, comfortable and relaxed while working independently.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best 2nd graders in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. My school is a 85% high poverty, Title One school with 75% diversity, mainly Afro-American. We are known to be the toughest in Madison and even with the given statistics, the teachers strive to be better to find ways to better educate our students. Our families have very little, so teachers have to try to make up for the deficiencies to excel our scholars to their highest extent of learning.
As you can imagine when working with 7 and 8 year olds, many of my students have a lot of difficulty sitting in their chairs safely and appropriately. Chairs are hard, slippery and just dont fit a little body efficiently. What ends up happening is my students who have the most difficulty sitting still end up leaning back in their chairs or moving their chairs excessively causing an unsafe situation. I have had several students fall backwards, fall off and even hit peers with their chair as a result. The noise these plastic chairs make can also be very distracting to others. Hokki stools will help my student's move and wiggle as needed without falling backwards and making excessive noises. It will also help them increase their focus as well as everyone else's around them. The Big Joe beanbags will be a special treat for kids to snuggle in with a good story or when using their beloved iPads for independent learning.
