Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our classroom theme is "A Dalmatian Family." My students come from various ethnic backgrounds with a majority of them in low socioeconomic households. Our classroom serves as a place in which they come together with their dalmatian brothers and sisters to expand their schema and knowledge of the world. In our classroom, they are able to put aside their challenges and focus on their academic journey. When a dalmatian steps into the classroom, they are no longer their circumstances, they become the beginning of a dream come true.

My Project

My 1st Grade students are so creative and imaginative. What if they could use their creativity and imagination to explore story elements... Students would be able to connect to story elements by implementing characters, setting, main idea and details into digital stories written, directed and performed by them! Students would use the camera to record and store their group stories.

I believe that this would grow my students beyond the creative limits of paper and pencil.

It's never too early to nurture the writing, organization, or directorial skills that children may possess. Who knows, this project could serve as the foundation for the next Oscar winning actor, actress, writer or director!
