My students need these items to enhance our classroom maker space and allow them to explore their passion for creating. For example, the Makedo Tool Kit will help make their cardboard designs a reality.
The students in my classroom are happy fourth graders who come to school everyday eager and excited to learn, persevere and share their ideas. Our classroom community is a place where my students feel safe to take risks and can trust that they are supported by everyone in the room.
Supporting the diverse needs of these nine and ten year old learners takes all of us in the classroom to work together in a manner that is engaging and supportive.
Being able to bring new ideas that will enrich and ignite the creative minds of my students enables me to tap into their boundless energy and passion for learning.
My Project
Watching children develop their ideas and follow their passions is something every student should have the chance to do in school. This is why I am reaching out to DonorsChoose to help fund the supplies we need to make our classroom creation station a place where students can fuel their creative minds.
The items in this grant will support my fourth graders by giving them the tools they need to enhance 21st century skills as they explore, create, invent and share their discoveries.
With coin batteries, copper foil and LED lights students will learn to create circuits, They can then construct wearable light-up jewelry and light displays for research projects across the curriculum. In addition, with the Makedo cardboard construction tools students will construct models of original designs, extending their math and engineering skills. The Makey-Makey kits will give artistic and digital savvy students a creative outlet as they further develop skills in designing and problem solving. The level of engagement these materials can provide will ignite their imaginations and provide them with opportunities to try something new in an environment which fosters their learning.
