My students need these supplies to experience an authentic Writer's Workshop this year! Writing pads and chart paper are both necessary materials for my students to get their bright ideas on paper and their voices heard.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my second year of teaching, and I am already hooked. Hooked on the passion of my students, the new perspective I have on education, and the challenge of growing their brains every day. It is my goal every single day to walk into that classroom and design a space that is nurturing and promotes independent learning.
My students come from a wide variety of cultures and neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area; and are in desperate need of a nurturing classroom.
My school aims to mix socioeconomic groups as a way to promote a successful and meaningful learning environment for all students. While it is a Title 1 Magnet School, it has opened its doors to the nearby community. As the area around the school gentrifies, we must adapt and change with it.
As their educator, I will do anything to create a classroom where they can thrive.
My Project
These materials will make a major difference in my students' learning this upcoming year. Over the summer I have been studying and preparing to launch a full Writer's Workshop in my classroom. Writer's Workshop is an approach to teaching writing that encourages independence and uses literature to teach the craft of writing.
I want to make sure I have the right supplies to help my students feel confident in their writing, and ensure they know their voices and ideas matter.
Students will use the individual writing pads and post its to feel like real authors. Whether that is simply turning the page to start a new story, adding in a post it where they want to elaborate on details, and have a collection of writing samples at the end of the year they can be proud of. The chart paper will be used by me every day for mini lessons. I will be showing my students different examples of literature and then the students will help me chart the writing technique and strategy we are focusing on for that day. The charts are a way for me to put their thinking onto paper in an organized and helpful way they can refer back to all year. These supplies will allow me to effectively teach writing everyday and have my students develop stamina an volume in writing. I want to focus on the process, not the product.
