This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I have the pleasure of molding the minds of adventurous five year old students. I teach in a public school school that is in a low income neighborhood. The students do not have many of the educational tools they need, but they are eager to learn.
In the past, there was not much emphasis on teaching younger children writing skills. Today, teachers are encouraged to teach the younger students how to creatively and effectively communicate using written language. My students love to attempt to write to tell me a story or about an important event in their lives. Lack of funding prevents my students from having the materials they need in the classroom writing center to become the wonderful writers I know they can be.
In order for my classroom writing center to be one that will allow the students to become proficient writers, we will need a dry erase easel, chart paper, dry erase markers, pencils, and journals.
Your help will ensure that my students start learning the proper writing skills early in elementary school. These skills will follow them through out the rest of their years in school and hopefully will help ensure them success throughout life.
