This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the feeling when you sat with your parents at night as they read aloud one of your favorite stories? Most of my students have never had that experience. By listening to reading, one of their Daily Five activities, my 5th graders will be able to listen and read along.

My students are motivated and eager to learn.

They are on the path to becoming voracious readers, yet many of them are reading a few levels below fifth grade reading level. More than 90% of our student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch in a public school setting.

My Project

As I work with small groups of students, other students work independently during our language arts block, choosing to read to themselves, read to someone, work on writing, or listen to reading. Struggling readers will be able to select one of the requested books and a portable CD player, find a comfy spot in the classroom and sit and enjoy a book.

Creating life long readers is so important!

Research shows that there is a correlation between reading significantly below grade level and dropping out of high school. Please help make the difference!
