This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
You've probably seen in the media that schools are currently focused on testing. Students are subjected to several tests each year, many to the point of frustration and tears. School should be about using knowledge you've gained, combining it and creating something that shows what you know.
I teach in a high ability program in a public school that covers curriculum from kindergarten to 6th grade, and a little beyond.
My school is very diverse and has several types of learning personalities within the walls. My students are curious and want to learn as much as they can.
My Project
Students will use this camera and video camera, with adult supervision, to record and edit video projects. They will use it for the news broadcast, to create web series discussing books they have been reading, and in conjunction with our Internet access to make educational YouTube channels and more. Science and Technology aspects will be met through the use of the equipment itself; technology and comfort using it will be a huge asset to them when they enter their job market. They will be able to engineer audio samples to add to their videos and there is an astonishing amount of math required to create videos, whether we are talking about frames per second, figuring out video lengths to cut or editing videos for proper time. Not only will my students use this camera, it will be available for teachers to use to create tutorials and videos to help and motivate our students.
This Canon Rebel camera and the accessories will open doors to creativity by our students and staff that are otherwise not possible.
They will be able to create projects and utilize science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics that are only limited by their own skills, not our lack of technology.
