Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our student population is comprised of local kids in a low-economic, urban environment. All of our students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program, and over 80% of our students are English Language Learners.
As the Humanities/Garden STEAM lab teacher, I have the honor of serving approximately 380 students in grades K through 5th including special education students.
We are located in an area of high poverty, and most of our students do not have the opportunity to enjoy high quality, educational technology and learning opportunities at home. As a 21st century educator, it is a high priority to provide these types of technologies and resources to my 21st-century learners.
Your donation will make a significant difference in my students' access to high quality, fun technologies and learning resources.
My Project
With a new widescreen computer monitor, I will be better able to make a meaningful connection with my kindergarten through fifth grade STEAM Lab students. As my county experiences a rise in Covid-19 cases, my district will remain in full-time online/distance learning.
With my current PC, I have struggled being able to view and communicate with all of my students during my STEAM Lab classes.
This makes providing individualized meaningful instruction difficult. I am optimistic about this new way of learning and think that it has the potential to create a more intimate learning experience for my students.
A new widescreen monitor would allow me to view and monitor all 40 of my students in each of my K-5th grade classes while demonstrating how to plant garlic in a milk carton, sharing a science video, creating breakout sessions, leading a virtual field trip of the farm where we get the chance to adopt-a-cow, managing guest speakers during our chef demos and financial literacy sessions, or just hanging out for a few extra minutes after class to ensure that I build a human connection from a distance.
When we are able to return to school, this monitor would make a fantastic addition to the technology that is already installed in my classroom. The kids will go nuts. I don't think they have ever seen such a large monitor.
