This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from low-income homes and face many challenges on a daily basis. As a new teacher, who grew up in the same neighborhood as my students, I am looking to provide them with all the necessary tools needed to further their growth.
All of the students who attend the school receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite the challenges they face both in and out of school, they come in each day with a love for their teachers and a yearning for knowledge.
My Project
Last year I began teaching at a new school. Almost everything that my first grade students and I had to work with were the things that I brought with me, most of which were materials from a previous donors choose project and things that I aquired from my previous classroom.
I found that my students often struggled with different topics because they did not have hands-on materials to help.
I tried my best to create manipulatives and centers, and then print and laminate them. However, that was becoming extremely time consuming and expensive. I found myself gathering my students to our rug as I projected online math manipulatives. Having 27 students proved extremely difficult for things to work well.
These materials will be used daily so that my students are afforded more opportunities to excel! The tablets will be used as multiple centers for my students. They will use them to play learning games, as well as use them as a listening center. The manipulatives will be used during whole group and small group instruction to ensure that each student has multiple ways to come up with a solution.
The other materials will be used during daily 5 as different stations. Finally, the thermal label maker will allow me to keep the classroom organized in a more cost-effective way! My students and I greatly appreciate every contribution we recieve!
