Creating Tech Savvy Citizens

My students need computers in order to do research, create high quality work, and learn skills to get ready for high school and beyond!

My Students

"Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose." - Zora Neale Hurston

Imagine a classroom of 32 "tween"agers.

You're probably envisioning a den of angst, attitude, and maybe a funky smell. Though the warmer months do bring some of the latter, the 7th grade Social Studies at MAT is not what you'd expect. Room 401 is an exciting place to be. Our students become passionate about history and they always want to know more. While we do have a decent classroom library, those trade books alone cannot satisfy their curiosity. Neither can our two desktop computers or the one laptop cart shared by the whole middle school.

My Project

We need to give students resources to foster and further their curiosity. These Chromebooks are the perfect tool to help them grow as historians and learners. Students will use them to find more evidence to prove their cases in mock trial, to find powerful quotations from great revolutionaries to make their speeches more persuasive, and to delve deeper into issues of modern slavery for their museum exhibits.

Donations to this project will level the playing field for many of our students who do not have access to technology at home and will allow those who know the basics of research and career skills like emailing and using "the cloud" to get a more sophisticated understanding of what is possible.

Thank you for reading about our project and we hope you will contribute.
