Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I have the wonderful opportunity to teach 24 energetic and loving 2nd-grade students in Northern California. Our suburban school is diverse, serving scholars of various socioeconomic and ethnic diversity as well as levels of academic achievement backgrounds. My mission is to create a child-centered, learning community, educating each student in an individually appropriate manner within an environment of personal safety and mutual respect to become well-informed, productive, and socially responsible citizens.
As a teacher, my goal is to establish a learning environment that meets the needs of all my students.

My Project
Distance learning has been challenging for teachers, parents, and students alike. The hardest part is not being able to see each other in person. Although we have not been able to be in our classroom together, the connections and memories we make are still important. This year I have come up with creative ways to help bring excitement to distance learning. My students have loved receiving postcards since the pandemic began.
As a child, receiving a postcard in the mail is exciting and can brighten your day.
Since I have begun to send postcards to my students, they have shared them with me on Zoom, sent me pictures of it hanging on their wall and videos of them reading it aloud. A single postcard brightened that student's day and made distance learning a little easier. I am hoping donors will help me continue to send fun and unique postcards to brighten my students' day until we are able to be together again.
