"Wow, how did you create that? What kind of character do you think I could create? Where do we find the code for that robot? I'd like to make it the main character in my story!" These are some questions that our inquisitive students might ask during our writing workshop.
Our hope with this project is to make sure our students have opportunities to make small moments through the use of different Lego creations.
My students come from a diverse background where many are English learners and are well below the poverty line. At least 60% of my students are on free and reduced-price lunch and are in need of many different learning opportunities. Each student has a desire to tell their own story. You can see the spark of creativity in their eyes as we dive deeper into writing using small moments.
We can help innovate our schools through each and every student. Their stories will make a gigantic impact on the future of our world.
The beauty of a story begins with a seed. Once that seed is planted, the imagination can run wild. This project will help students to find a seed, plant it, and begin creating wonderful stories. The different Lego sets (Wedo and Minifigs) will help students take small moments, orally tell a story, and begin to write their own narratives.
Our students deserve the opportunity to tell their stories.
To hear their voices come out in the characters they create. These students want to make a story be spooky, exciting, mysterious, and hilarious. What better way to do that then to create with Lego. These Lego sets will provide an almost infinite amount of ways to create a story and that's the beauty of this small moment project. No matter how many times a student begins to create, they can change, revise, edit, change and so on, until their story becomes a piece they are proud of.
I know that student writers will benefit from this small moment project. The excitement a writer shows when a character or idea they have created begins to take shape is awe inspiring. I love to hear what they have to say and guide them through the process of creation. You can directly influence their storytelling ability by assisting our class with obtaining these great Lego sets.
