We need a Flex-Space Cozy Work Space Bundle, Balance Balls, and Comfy Floor Seats. My students need a learning environment where they choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed.
I teach 4th grade Language Arts. Since 4th grade is departmentalized, I teach about 90 children. I have a wide variety of reading levels, abilities, and needs in my classroom. I am trying to find the best tools and materials to accommodate and make it a learning environment for all students.
I want to teach my students the importance of reading and writing.
My classroom is made up from a combination of special education, ESL, and general education students. Being able to provide instruction at their own levels will make them more successful readers and writers.
My Project
I want a classroom environment that will provide choice, comfort, and collaboration. I believe a way I can achieve this and elevate it to the next level is through student choice in seating.
We all know that no two children learn the same.
I provide differentiated lessons to enhance all learning; so why not provide students with flexible seating that encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Flexible seating creates more student control and less teacher control and improves student engagement. The students will have a sense of ownership that will make them more invested in their own education.
Providing the variety of seating options will allow them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Two of the seating options the floor seating seats and the balance balls provide the movement. All these seating options will provide the children with choice and comfort.
