Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The only way to learn to write is to write." Peggy Teeters
My kindergarten students are a very diverse group.
Our school is an inner city school where 92% of our families qualify for free and reduced price meals. We also have a program where we send home food on the weekends for our neediest families. Also, a majority of our students are English as a Second Language learners and the only time they speak English is at school. Many of their parents work 2 jobs and can only afford basic necessities.
My Project
I want my students to be able to create their own books that they can take home and keep. In order to create those books, the students will have to work closely with the writing process and learn to write a first draft, edit and publish so that that they can create their own books to be "published" and added to our classroom library. With the laminator, I will be able to laminate the pages of the student's book for durability before using the bookbinder to attach the pages together. The students will be proud to read and share their own creations as authors!
By donating to this project, you will help build Kindergartners' confidence in writing and the writing process while creating books that they can publish, read, share, take home and keep.
