Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In an effort to close the educational gap, I am trying to break out from the traditional way of teaching. Our student body consists of 99% Hispanic, 97% economically disadvantaged, 88% at risk of dropping out of high school, and 79% limited English proficient.
My students are some of the best people I know.
They have a hunger for learning and look forward to puzzles and challenges. I want to help the students realize their true potential though building their critical thinking skills in real world scenarios.
My Project
This Cricut and accessories will make it possible for my students to have access to create our own science shirts. The equipment that my students and I are requesting will allow student to map out difficult concepts in a fun way. Through art, they will be able to understand a concept such as reflection, through shirt design.
With the Cricut my scholars can gain an understanding of entrepreneurship, adversity, and teamwork, all while using images to build scientific content.
Images help us learn, images grab attention, explain tough concepts, and inspire. We are very visual creatures. A large percentage of the human brain dedicates itself to visual processing. Our love of images helps our brains to process and retain. Images help us become involved.
My student are living with the fact that they are in a group that includes 89% at-risk of not graduating and 100% free lunch, many of our students do not have the means of purchasing designer shirts. I want to create a method for students to be able to become designers and science enthusiasts without spending a lot of money that they don't have. I have requested a Cricut, Cricut press, vinyl, and Cricut accessories so that students can create their own science content shirts.
By implementing this program, my students will begin to experience worlds that were otherwise beyond their reach. Images are a vital part of science communication and we will use these materials to aid us in cementing science concepts through art. We truly need your support to make this a reality.
