Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th-grade cluster is made up of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. In my district close to 60% of students receive free or reduced lunch, this means that many do not have the basic supplies that we take for granted.
Like all 8th graders, my kids love to create and explore.
They are most invested in their own learning when they have a hand in creating the assignment.
My students have so much to offer and through this project they are making resources they can keep for years.
My Project
My students were lucky enough to get a comb binder earlier this year. Together we created math journals that they could use as a resource throughout each unit. This helps them to keep all of their papers together and allows them to use their own creativity to make a resource that works for them.
Students make their own books!
While doing these books we have discovered two problems. First, we need bigger combs and second, they need a sturdier cover. This project is for a variety of different size binder combs, so we can make sure we have the right size for the project we are creating.
