Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are learning English as a second language! They are vibrant fourth graders who have tough lives. My students have the highest goals, hopes and dreams, but due to life's hardships, they need help in attaining them! The sky is the limit for them as they dream of having an educated future!
My students live in the inner city and school is an oasis for them.
They fight through a lot of challenges and somehow never give up.
Language, with many parents being illiterate, and poverty are just some of the things they struggle with. Our classroom is colorful and uplifting to offer hope to all who enter and study here!
My Project
Hello and welcome to my project!
My students face many hard days which seem void of color.
So many heavy worries on their small shoulders: poverty, immigration worries, limited English, etc. I have always felt my most important job as a teacher is to show them hope and colorful moments of happiness.
My room is very creative and bright and cheerful. To do so many creative things, we need tools which are very scarce in urban school districts.
I have eight beautiful whiteboards and having enough dry erase markers is essential to using them. These dry erase markers can be split into 8 groups and used over and over and over! We do so many exciting group projects on our whiteboards and the kids absolutely love them!
The packages of regular markers would be used for countless projects. The children could use them to make notebooks colorful, coloring maps and math activities, designing science projects with the exact colors of nature...the list is endless!
I teach an upper grade and these markers are essential to learning as an older student!
