My students need an iPad to create music regardless of grade level or skill with English.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My elementary school serves a diverse population, many speaking a language other than English as their first language at home. Some of our students in the self-contained Autistic Spectrum classrooms don't speak at all. My music room gives everyone a chance to express themselves in various ways, through singing, moving and playing instruments. What's missing from their experience, though, is creating.
Seeing children ages four through eleven come alive as they experience music, regardless of their background, is what makes my job so wonderful.
I'd like to give them all an opportunity to create their own music through technology.
My students sometimes struggle with our songs because they're primarily in English. Everyone gets to participate equally when we focus on an activity that's non-verbal. Playing instruments and movement fills this need, but a vital part of musical expression is the act of creating.
Unlike the past, when you needed to be able to read and write music in order to compose music, today's technology opens up creation to everyone.
Because the iPad is so intuitive, even youngsters in Kindergarten with little to no English skills can express themselves musically. This iPad, connected to my projector, would give students a way to compose as a part of the whole class.
