My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day. I teach at a school that is considered Title I, where over 75% of my students are on free or reduced lunches. Many come from families that are economically disadvantaged and have parents that work multiple jobs to make ends meet. They want to be in school because they want to learn. That's good news since I want to be at school because THEY want to learn.
I teach music to 600 Kindergarteners through 5th Graders.
My students range from GT students to Life Skills students and everything in between. We play work hard, learn hard, and (in music class) play hard too!
Students at my school perform at a variety of programs throughout their time at the school. From kindergarten to fifth grade, from musicals to choir concerts, we try to film them all in order to share with the parents and families. Recently the choir has taken it a step further and begun creating music videos where they create the audio and video themselves to debut at our spring concert. This lead to us (the teachers) creating musical welcome back videos to start each year.
Sadly, the equipment we are using is old, outdated, and does not do justice to their effort and quality of their hard work.
The videos created with new, updated equipment would help to capture the performances as it was intended to be experienced. New equipment helps ensure that we can save these memories for years to come and be able to continue to share with our loved ones.
