My Students

I am the luckiest teacher because I get to work at the best school In Las Vegas. I also get to teach all students Kindergarten- 5th-grade math!

The students at my school have been through so much these past two school years with the Covid shutdown.

Many students have had support and have thrived on virtual learning but there are many students who really struggled with learning due to connection difficulties and parents who were working out of the house. Because of this, the students are at varied levels of learning. There are some students who are on grade level and there are some who are behind. I am looking for ways to close the learning gaps from the shutdown and students learning from home.

I can say that the students at my school are dedicated, motivated, and driven. They amaze me with their ability to adapt and grow as learners and how they have advocated for their learning this past school year.

I am so lucky that I will be able to work with all of them, K-5 next school year, and help each one grow their love for math.

My Project

My role as a teacher at my school is to teach math to all students. This means I have the amazing opportunity to teach grades Kindergarten to 5th grade. I have spent so much time creating and pouring into all of the math standards for these grades so I can provide students an opportunity to learn math standards in fun, hands-on centers or activities. My first wish in this DonorsChoose project to help make my centers more interesting by using colored printer paper. It is also a way to keep my students more organized.

This year, because of COVID, I need to put all of the centers in plastic pages or sheet protectors so they can be cleaned between classes.

I also use the plastic pages with all grades, which means 935 students are using the plastic pages and whiteboard markers. I have been going through a lot of markers but the markers on my list are holding up the best and lasting the longest. The last request on my list is for laminating sheets because their activities need to be made to last and in a way that they can be cleaned easily. Plastic sheets help me with keeping their work cleaned and sanitized.
