Mrs. Oswald from Dallas TX is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books about art to help them understand important art concepts, promote literacy, and inspire creativity.

The art room is a place for my students to explore, create, build, question, and learn. Every day is an adventure with these kiddos. I work at a Title I school in Dallas, TX. 100% of my students receive free lunch and breakfast. Despite the obstacles of poverty, they persevere, overcome, and constantly impress me. Art provides an outlet for my students to express themselves.
My students come into my room with a passion for art and a desire to learn.
775 students visit the art room every week. Whether it is making masks with Pre-Kindergarten students or painting One-Point Perspective with 5th graders, there is always something interesting going on.
I love inspiring my students to create through a great book. I sometimes use books to engage my students and encourage their art-making abilities. The books that I have selected will be enjoyed by all grade levels, but they have a special place with the younger ones.
Through books, we can travel to different places, learn about exciting artists, and even learn about what not to do (in a fun way).
A long time after reading the book "Beautiful Oops", a student accidentally made a mistake on her drawing which upset her greatly. I made some suggestions on how we could change it. Then a students chimed in "Or you can just call it a beautiful oops!" This encouragement helped the girl overcome her negative emotions about her art. My students frequently bring up the concept of the "beautiful oops" even though we read the book awhile ago. Something as simple as a book has made a lasting and positive impression on my students. Through these stories, students will learn about art in a unique and interesting way. Reading a storybook not only promotes literacy and inspires students, it helps them to learn about art.
Thank you so much for considering donating to my project. These books will be well-loved by my students and I! I would appreciate any support and I am excited to see how literature will inspire beautiful masterpieces.
