My students need a 3D printer and supplies to fully realize our STEAM Collaboratory as a true Makers' Space. We have the desire to learn, we just need the tools.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Here at our school, as we move into the fulfillment of our identification as a STEAM school, nearly 700 students interact with science, technology and engineering daily. We have creators in the making, and now, with a space where they can create, we can see the bright future ahead.
The nearly 100 sixth graders I teach each day are positive, enthusiastic and determined to succeed.
They embrace technology, learning, and change and look forward to using their imaginations to make our STEAM Collaborators a space for innovation and creativity. We have nearly 700 students at our school, where learning and community come first. Parents and students are involved and dedicated to making our school the best it can be. We have big dreams for the future and we see the path ahead clearly. Dedication to studies, embracing technology, fostering engineering and encouraging artistic expression will be pathways to our success.
My Project
With the purchase of a 3D printer, our 6th grade STEAM program will become even more developed. We already use engineering in both our Science curriculum and our Structural engineering elective, but with the availability of a 3D printer, we can expand our projects to include 3D design. I imagine an after school Makers' Club, where 6th graders can learn to design and create with endless possibilities.
This project will instill a sense of pride in our 6th graders.
They rise to the occasion when given opportunities to be ground-breakers on our campus. With the implementation of 3D printing and design opportunities for our 6th graders, and hopefully lower grades as we expand our STEAM program and Collaborators, our school will be creating citizens even more prepared for their future than ever before.
