My students need 4 book sets that will capture their interest in reading by expanding their imagination. This would go a long way in helping to create my literature circles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want students to go beyond the short passages and stories in their textbooks and really learn to engage and enjoy literature. Shouldn't all students have an opportunity to learn to love reading?
I have a class of sixth graders who come from a variety of backgrounds.
Most are from lower socioeconomic families with little disposable income. They come eager to learn and are wonderful to engage with. My students have the potential to become leaders of tomorrow rising above whatever circumstance they may be under.
The majority of my students have little support from home due to a variety of factors from being latch key kids, to having too many siblings, and parents who want to help but are unable to do so. They are all loved and have great capacity to learn and be critical thinkers.
Given an opportunity they all have the ability to become avid lovers of literature. Our school has struggled through the years having a very low reputation in the area. This is not to say that our students here do not care or are not able. My students can do and are willing to learn everyday.
My Project
These books that I'm asking to be donated will help to create literature circles. Through engaging in current popular literature books they will develop a love for reading.
I want the students to be engaged in reading books that will be fun and foster creativity. They will read in independently and meet with me in small groups discussing what they have read. Literature circles take more time and effort to plan but the outcomes are worth it.
The students will learn to generate the questions enabling them to think more critically. They will learn deeper listening and speaking skills. The students will learn to stretch their minds as they will use their imaginations as they read.

I will purchase the extra books needed. I cannot do this alone and want to give my students the opportunity to read some fun books that their peers in other more prosperous neighborhoods are reading. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
