Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse group of bright, kind and eager children. My students deserve a large classroom library with a variety of texts for their various reading levels. I want them to come in and know they will find a book that is just right for them on our shelves. My school is located in a low income area where students face various challenges everyday.
They are eager to be at school and enjoy learning.
Every morning they set their learning goal for the day and so many of them have goals related to reading. I want to help them learn to be the best readers they can, by providing them as many books as possible.
My Project
Students read books everyday during Reader's Workshop in order to support their literacy learning. During our Reader's Workshop hour, students read books individually while I meet with small groups for guided reading. These books will be used for both our guided reading and for their independent reading.
We need to have a large library with a variety of different texts in order to allow students to find a book they will enjoy and engage in while reading.
The best way for children to improve their literacy is being given time to read. To get them interested in reading, we need to have a diverse and interesting library.
