My students need a wireless headphone set that will allow them to engage in stories while listening anywhere in the classroom. Informational Read-Alongs will expose my students to nonfiction and expository texts.
I am a third grade reading teacher at a low-income, Title 1 school in Port Arthur, Texas. My students face many challenges. Hurricane Harvey has made those challenges more difficult for my students and their families.
Despite the obstacles that Hurricane Harvey has brought my school community, my students show up every day ready to learn.
They are eager and excited to come to school and learn new things. I want my classroom to be a safe and engaging environment for my students.
My Project
I want my students to walk into a print-rich environment every day. I want to provide them with a variety of texts consisting of different genres. I have a growing classroom library that I take great pride in and my students love to get their hands on the books. Having my students listen to read-alongs is just another engaging way for the books to come to life. It will also assist struggling readers and auditory learners.
I want to instill a love of reading into each one on my students.
They deserve every opportunity to be exposed to as many books and genres as possible. I believe that students who love reading have a greater chance of academic and future success. I want to inspire them to love reading as much as I do.
