My students need short examples of good literature from many different genres with Storyworks magazine.
This project expired on December 10, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My school is a Title I school with many diverse learners! Each child comes to school with their own experiences and backgrounds. Many of the students that attend have limited access to literature due to their economic status. Despite that, they love learning, reading and coming to school!
Fourth grade students are at that inbetween stage of being dependent on adults, yet yearning for their independence!
It is easy to fall in love with these kids! My goal is to teach them to become more independent readers, thinkers, and writers!
Fourth grade students typically shy away from long chapter books unless they are avid readers. With Storyworks magazines I want to give my students a taste of good literature and give them the skills they need to be confident enough to pick good books. The stories and articles are short enough to keep their interest, yet rigorous enough to teach the skills needed for success.
Storyworks magazines will allow even the most reluctant readers to build confidence in themselves.
I plan to use the magazines with the whole class and also in small groups. I am excited to be able to give my students this opportunity!
