This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is full of creative, energetic, and inquisitive first graders who come to school ready to learn. I teach at an underfunded urban school.
In our classroom, we love to incorporate hands-on materials into our center time.
The students love being engaged and in control of their learning through our hands-on materials. My students need magnetic letters, word building tiles, and a phonics activity program to improve our reading fluency. These materials will continue to enrich the students' learning experiences and foster the growth of my lifelong learners! Our school is located in an underfunded low income area of Indianapolis.
My Project
We currently do not have enough materials for all of the students to be able to work at center time simultaneously. The materials that we do have are in poor condition. My students love being able to explore and use the materials during center time, and I think new materials would continue to foster their growth in reading. First grade is a pivotal moment where the students really identify themselves as confident readers.
The materials I have selected are hands-on, exciting, and engaging for the many different types learners within my classroom.
The students will thoroughly enjoy being able to explore and use these materials to continue their learning. I have selected items to help first graders such as letter tiles, magnet letters, word building games, and a phonics listening center. These items will provide my students with hands-on opportunities to further explore phonics and reading.
