"Childhood is filled with natural wonder and curiosity. The learning environment must reflect a classroom that inspires a sense of wanting to investigate, to find out, and to explore." (Kathy Walker) Access to an organized classroom library will further student learning exponentially and facilitate differentiated instruction with collaborative learning by allowing students to find books that meet the diverse needs in our classroom.
My third grade classroom resides in a STEAM school in Gilbert, Arizona.
The students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. My students thrive when they are able to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. They love learning and growing in our tight-knit classroom. My students enter the classroom each day excited for the new adventures they will find and thrilled to explore new topics through collaborative experiences. They enjoy working with their peers on projects and solving problems together for better understanding.
My Project
Books are one of the best ways we can teach our students. Books build background and share the world through words and pictures. It is amazing to watch my students become excited, entranced, and involved in stories. Picture books find a way to make students excited about reading again as well as gain academic knowledge in all subject areas, which helps them to succeed in both school and life.
Learning through literacy is a best practice technique for activating students' interests and abilities to comprehend abstract concepts.
My students need a place to quickly find high-quality texts. These book bins would allow students to find quality literature at their independent reading levels.
I am looking to enrich my students' reading experience by creating a space for students to find books related to what we are learning in our social studies and science inquiry units, as well as writing units and math units.
