This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I middle school located in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, New York. My students are a diverse group of enthusiastic, innovative, curious, resilient and caring 7th graders who demonstrate a passion for learning.
My student population includes gifted students, students with learning disabilities, and English language learners.
However, their varying capabilities is not evident in the effort they make within the classroom to be successful students, and for that reason, I am extremely proud of them.
My Project
Having access to an iPad provide my students with the ability to access learning activities such as videos, simulations, virtual labs, and science articles to deepen their understanding of science concepts.
The iPad will remove language barriers experienced by my ENL students by allowing them to access learning activities in their first language as well as supporting their English acquisition.
Students will be free to scan English text for translation or access our Spanish version curriculum online. This in turn will increase their autonomy and build their confidence in their ability to guide their own learning, which will increase engagement and and increase learning outcomes.
The iPad will also be used to access our Financial Literacy online enrichment program.
