Mrs. Hecker from Clairton PA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a document camera, iPads, headphones, and the ability to listen to books on cassette/CD to improve their independent thinking skills.

My second grade classroom consists of students who are excited about learning and aim to please. Unfortunately with lack of technology in the classroom, the students are unable to reach their full potential and obtain the full benefits that technology has to offer.
My students are in 2nd grade and live in a diminutive, suburban public school district in Pennsylvania.
Due to 85% of the student population falling below the poverty level and receiving free and reduced lunch they do not have the advantage of technology in the classroom. These students are free thinkers and are eager to learn and move forward. They enjoy the use of technology to manipulate the lessons that we discuss during our classroom learning time. By utilizing technology, it will give them the ability to achieve on various levels. Their social skills are developed during our classroom time and their technological skills will be utilized during our small group learning centers.
The document camera will be used during whole group instruction. This will be used to introduce, review, and assess instruction. The headphones and iPads will be used to practice skills in an independent learning center. They will be used during the small group rotations to help improve their reading and comprehension skills. The cassette/CD player will be used to practice fluency, assess comprehension, incorporate music, movement, and song into instruction. This will make learning engaging and fun! Students will learn how to utilize technology to practice their skills, research information, and for their enjoyment.
With technology playing an important role in today's society, students should be introduced to it at an early age.
This will allow them to be provided the same technological advantages that their peers have from different economical backgrounds. Bringing their interests into the classroom, such as technology, it will increase their engagement in the lesson; this will help create independent achievers. By utilizing technology I will be able to meet different learning styles and their needs.
