Creating Incredible Wood Joints

Help me give my students the ability to create industry standard projects. This would be an incredible addition to our lab as one of the major units is dedicated to different wood joints.

My Project

As a technology education teacher one of my classes is dedicated to introducing students to woodworking. During the course, students are taught the differences between hardwoods and softwoods, how to determine grain direction, how to estimate materials and draw up plans, how to use the various power and hand tools in the lab, and how to put all of these things together to create a variety of projects.

One of the major units during the course focuses on the various types of wood joints that can be used when joining wood in order to strengthen and beautify their projects.

Having a mortising machine to go along with the other machines that are already in the lab would help to enhance the students' abilities to create mortise and tenon joints, and allow them to do comparisons between mortise and tenon joints and other types. It will also allow students to forgo using screws and nails in their projects, which will only help to enhance their overall appearance. Overall, it would allow the students to take their projects to a higher level and get them closer to industry standards.
