We teach a group of energetic and hard-working 3rd graders with many different learning styles. They are active learners who enjoy hands-on experiences and opportunities to collaborate.
They are bright, caring, creative students who love learning.
Our school is located in the middle of military housing and most of our students are from Navy families. They face challenges such as frequent moves and parent deployments with resilience. These amazing youngsters give their best every day and deserve a learning environment that celebrates their diversity and fosters their enthusiasm, energy, and creativity.
My Project
We want to create a welcoming classroom for our group of third grade students so that they come to school each day ready to learn with a smile on their face.
Our project materials can help us create an inclusive classroom that will increase motivation and engagement, and meet the wide variety of educational needs and learning styles of our diverse group of learners.
With flexible seating like floor cushions and tractor stools, our students will have the freedom to find comfortable work spaces around the room where they can best focus on their learning and use up excess energy. Our flexible seating also helps develop the essential skills of collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking through cooperative learning. A mobile whiteboard, headphone splitters and a standing table will also allow our students to work collaboratively and make presentations,
Another important aspect of creating an inclusive classroom is providing materials that are representative of the world around them. The book titles and social emotional materials in our project will help us build literacy and critical thinking skills while also helping students learn and celebrate differences in ability, race, cultures and traditions.
