My Students
My students are all girls who are learning to live and lead with confidence and purpose. They are a part of a diversity by design school model which allows them space to be educated alongside girls who does not look like them.
The girls are a part of a school that teaches the importance of valuing the contributions of all cultures.
They are also a part of a socioeconomic diversity program which allows them to be intentionally educated with girls from other economic classes. Therefore, we provide access to programs and clubs during the school day which increases the opportunity for inclusion.
My Project
The girls of SPSG want to learn to play the African drums. Our school has an opportunity from African Dance during Black History Month. To have drums, we will have the ability to provide drum circles in class.
Drum circles bring about unity and connection within the classroom community.
This is particularly important in an all-female environment. They will also be able to do team and independent work to build musicianship and to be able to practice socialization.
Additionally, scholars will give scholars a chance to play drums in class rather than waiting on the percussion unit comes up in their Music Class curriculum.
