Creating Healthy Bodies and Brains, While Supporting Our Emotional Health!
Help me give my students a space to call their own. Mindfulness practices help student to focus their attention, check into themselves and calm themselves down. Having yoga mats will provide them that space!
At our school, we value physical and emotional health in all of our students. Unfortunately, being a Title 1 school, many of our students come from low income families and struggle with focus, confidence, positive connection and lack the support for strengthening emotional health.
We see the benefit of providing extra chances for our students to learn the importance of mental health and build the confidence that they have more control of their own emotions and reactions in this ever-stressful world.
And that is exactly what we want to do by bringing mindfulness into our school, through group movement and focusing our attention to be better classmates!
My Project
Teaching mindfulness in our school has been effective in giving students a social and emotional tool to use in and outside of the classroom. Who knew they would love and depend on calming themselves down in times of stress in order to help get their brain back on track to make better, safer decisions.
We want to give our students a space to learn about their brain and how they can become in charge of their emotions and reactions in this ever-stressful world.
Getting space, through small group interventions and using simple yoga mats to feel safe on their "own space", we will be able to provide them some tools to use when they need to problem solve, become aware of emotions and self-regulate.
Our yoga mat collection will be used by all students, through small groups, and may even be used with teachers, when they need to find their own space as well.
