Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It has been proven that kindergarteners and students in all grades for that matter learn best through student to student learning. This is why we are trying to replenish our center materials. Our class loves to engage in small group work, and teaching each other and working together to create masterpieces.
My class is a class of 25 kindergartners with unique personalities and varying academic levels ranging from kindergarten to 2nd grade.
We are a kindergarten ICT class, 40% special education students and 60% regular education students. My students are part of a larger school community of about 700 students. Compared to other New York City Schools we are much smaller. While our small size has a lot of pros there are also many cons; one being the lack of space that our school has along with a smaller budget. While we try to use our budget wisely providing a great number of resources for our students, we often do not have many of the things that we need to help all our students be successful.
My Project
Our class loves to learn through center time! We try to encourage as much student to student learning, and are able to do this through centers. However, our games, puzzles and play dough have all seen better days. We have pieces missing, little to no play dough left, and no markers or colored pencils left to encourage great learning. We need new puzzles and Magna Tiles to encourage logical thinking and exploration and play dough, markers, and colored pencils for creative learning.
It has been proven that students learn best when working in small groups.
Please help us replenish our supply of great art and center materials. We would love to engage in puzzles that have all the pieces and use Legos that fit together to make an amazing sculpture!
