My students need a literacy center in order to develop their pre-reading skills and to develop an appreciation for the world of books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high poverty, economically challenged neighborhood. Many of my students come from diverse and challenging homes. Their families struggle to provide basic necessities. Despite these challenges, the students who enter my classroom are eager to learn.
My challenge as their teacher is to provide opportunities for them to explore the world around them and develop their sense of wonder and excitement for learning.
Transitional Kindergarten is the first step along the path of life-long learning and creating meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
This Literacy Center will provide a comfortable and quiet area for my students to engage with the world of literature. The "Beanbag Seats" and "Comfy Couch" are designed for their size and make the children feel as though this area is welcoming and belongs to them. The "Heavy Duty Mobile Book Cart" will provide a centralized location for students to check books out and return them when they are finished at the literacy center.
Most of my children do not have access to books or a quiet area at home to explore the world of literature.
Through your support, my students will have a safe, comfortable and dedicated area within the classroom that will enable them to begin to develop a life-long appreciation for reading.
