My Students

I teach in a low in-come school district in Southwest Iowa. I see, on average, 120 students on a daily basis. We explore the wonders of science and what makes our world tick. We do this by participating in hands-on experiments and labs to better engage all students and comprehend what we are learning.

"If a student can't learn the way we teach, then we should teach the way they learn." My school has been lucky enough to have a period during the day where students get to choose what educational path they want to explore.

During this time period, my students and I will be working on how to be leaders inside and outside of the classroom. They will be able to explore different paths to make our classroom, school, and community a better place for all.

My Project

These materials will provide many learning opportunities for our students to gain leadership skills, critical thinking skills, and collaborative skills. Students will be given an opportunity to engage in skills that are needed to be an effective leader. They will be exposed to high interest, non-fiction text.

I believe students will be able to apply leadership skills that they will be learning, throughout their lifetime.

We want our students to gain leaderships skills for their academics, athletics, fine arts, and their future jobs.

Students will also be exposed in seeing their regular general education teacher in a different role. Instead of seeing them teaching only Science, Reading, or Math. They will see their teacher also passionate about another topic. I think it's beneficial for students to see that their teachers have knowledge and passion in many areas, not just their content area.
