Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sixth grade MLL students are sweet and kind. They love to come to school everyday! My students are enthusiastic and eager about improving their English speaking, writing and reading skills. My students really enjoy reading, solving math problems, and writing about different topics. They are excited about school and love learning new things.
All of my sixth grade students are English language learners.
Some of my students are also special needs and have Individualized Education Programs. They struggle with reading, writing, science and math. I teach students from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, India, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Haiti. My students come from low-income backgrounds.
My Project
The use of a Wacom tablet will benefit our MLL students learning in person, as well as the students that come to the virtual class for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The tablet allows me to help them in exactly what they are struggling with, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. This tablet is great to stop distractions for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students. By having this tablet, MLL students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning in English!
If a Wacom is donated to our class, it will definitely help Bain's MLL students to improve and increase student attention and help with staying focused.
It will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement in English. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. Plus, in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy in all content areas, as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology in our learning environment!
