Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Hurricane Harvey flood wiped out our school library and all of our technology. Books and technology are how our students get to experience adventure and travel! With most of our students qualifying for free lunch, not many get a chance to truly venture out past their own neighborhood in Houston, Texas. My students need books, resources and furniture to get back to building their future!
Because of Hurricane Harvey floodwaters, we lost our entire library and all of our teaching resources!
We need to get our students back into reading and learning! Our kids crave access to technology, materials and books that have been published within the past few years and that appeal to the reading tastes of today. I serve as a Library ancillary teacher, so I get to interact with all students on our campus across all grade levels.
My Project
These books will make a great addition to our library. We are working on getting some more multicultural and non-fiction into our collection.
Students really thrive with reading when they are able to choose what they want to read.
The greater variety of books that we have, the more excitement we see generated in our students.
We are also needing a few more teacher resource books to help the teachers as we plan our lessons. Hurricane Harvey took our complete collection of teacher resource books, so we are also looking to build that area up.
Our goal is to ignite the love of reading in each of our students!
