Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My extraordinary students are learning English as a second or third language. My students are from diverse backgrounds and their origins are from Latin America. They migrated to the United States in search of a better eduction, since in most of their countries the education system is limited due to lack of schools in rural areas. Some of my students fled extreme violence and corruption. They are caring, respectful and humble persons with a big kind heart.
The majority of my students work after school and on the weekends in order to help their families and contribute to the household income.
They qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. These circumstances do not impede them from going to school everyday and giving their very best in order to get a good education. They are hungry for knowledge and for learning English because they know that it will improve their lives and provide a better future.
As English language learners, my students practice the language everyday in writing, speaking, listening and reading. Art is one way to be creative and express themselves in my classroom. Many resources are utilized in order for my students to learn the language and feel empowered.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will be used to learn English vocabulary, to provide notebooks for students who cannot afford one and to make learning in groups creative and full of color. Students will create projects using the duct tape, markers, pens, easel, index cards and other materials requested and will learn how to cite and find the main ideas while using their highlighters.
My students love to learn and these materials will help them develop good study habits as well as be creative and learn how to work cooperatively.
All the materials will be used as a classroom community and the notebooks and markers will be given to those students that do not have one for my class.
