My first graders love to read and write! This group of kiddos comes from a very diverse part of the city of Philadelphia.
My students come from households where there are some, to little, to no resources.
This creates a gap in the achievement and learning within the group of students. The wonderful parents of these children want to provide them with as many resources as you or I would for our own children, but often times find it difficult to locate or purchase these resources.
My Project
My first grade is filled with students who are going to be scientists, explorers, readers, writers, mathematicians, and observers! They are currently very excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Learning.
Through this STEM project, my students will study science, technology, engineering, and math.
These resources will allow my students to use a hands-on approach to their learning. My first graders can let their imaginations fly free to create anything they can dream of while also learning about inquiry, dialogue, teamwork, and critical thinking. They will also develop perseverance when their work doesn't go as predicted.
While using the Bridge and House building centers my students can be creative and turn their ideas into reality. These materials will encourage my students to work together, compromise, be creative and imaginative. In my classroom, I want to encourage hands-on learning that allows my students real life experiences. The STEM Centers that I'm requesting will encourage my students to work with their peers and build some amazing designs. I know my students will be captivated by these engineering activities! These STEM Centers will help give my students the necessary tools to become successful students in the 21st century.
