Mr. Milton from Greensboro NC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a music program for them to notate music as well as a keyboard to learn help music theory.

One of the greatest gifts of music is the ability to express yourself musically. My students are not able to truly express themselves musically due to the lack of adequate technology to compose music with.
My band students are really special because they bring a spirit to music that I never could and many of them have allowed music to affect them in such a positive way.
Our school is diverse economically and culture-wise, but the great thing is that the common ground is music. Students are trying to reach one unified goal in band (to sound good) and students work hard to make sure that is accomplished. My students are also chameleons in that they adapt to the different circumstances in school making it difficult sometimes to see what we need because many students do great things with very little at my school, especially in band.
I am requesting Finale 2012 because many of students compose music by hand but do not want their music to be played by other students due to their embarrassment of how it looks. Finale 2012 will give students the opportunity to make their composed music look professional and be able to print parts for the rest of the band as well as access their knowledge of music. If a student writes a rhythm wrong in Finale the music will play what is written pushing the students to become more accurate in writing the rhythms the first time. Finale 2012 is also compatible with Smart Music (which the band will be getting next year) that allows students to practice with their compositions and also be given assignments for students to compose. The M-Audio keyboard will be compatible with the music program and allow students to quickly play music that will be notated as they are playing it in real time. The keyboard will also be used to teach basic music theory such as basic keys on a keyboard.
I composed my first music in the 7th grade.
I used the software at my brothers high school to write the music. I later had that song copywritten and the high school band later played my music. Composing music gave me a indescribable feeling of power and accomplishment. Please help my students have that same feeling!
