Help me give my students as many opportunities as I can by helping me build my classroom library. The two larger technical manuals included in my project are to help design a technical theatre course.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When my students walk into my classroom, I look into their faces and find an eagerness to learn. A desire to become more connected to the world around them.
"Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to." Willem Dafoe highlighted one of the most important aspects of theatre in this one line.
Every student who walks through the doors of my classroom(s) - 5 classes in 5 different classrooms) does so with their own unique backstory, but with the understanding that we are all connected in the grand scheme of things.
My students walk in the classroom ready to expand their worldview and step into the shoes of someone else. They are fun loving and working to build skills of empathy and compassion for their fellow human beings - starting with the ones next to them in the classroom. Theatre is an inclusive subject, so my students come to me with all different abilities and at various levels. But every student puts their best foot forward to grow not only as artists, but as human beings navigating a challenging world.
My Project
The books included in this project will help me continue to build my classroom library and make a variety of different dramatic experiences available to my students. Providing them with performance opportunities via the material in many of these books will help continue to foster in them a love of performing. These books will allow for us to expand our forays into scene work and monologue presentations.
In addition, there are technical manuals that will be used to help design a technical theatre course in the future.
This will allow me to broaden the horizons of my drama department, welcoming in students who may find a home backstage. This course will cover various technical elements of the theatre that students can choose to be involved in as well as a unit on stage management.
