Creating Curious Readers with Fiction and Non-fiction Books!
My students need fiction and non-fiction books to be put in our classroom reading library. My students need books that are a wide range of levels to meet their reading needs.
I teach first grade where students are learning how to read independently for a long period of time and read to others. At this age, my students are eager to read and love to choose new books. It is amazing to see them excel and learn in reading and find a love for reading! My students are very curious, energetic, and are like "sponges"- especially when learning about something that they love. Our 21st century classroom supports relaxed, happy, and highly engaged kids. Our school consists of an open area where all classrooms do not have walls. My students come from all backgrounds, ranging from ELL and special education. Our building is very different as we are an open concept building, we don't have walls to our classrooms!
My Project
Currently, in our classroom, we only have a small amount of books for my students to read. A classroom library is so important to my students because they are able to pick their own books by what they are interested in, which empowers themselves as a learner- to have choice in what they are reading! It is also so important to my first graders because they are so interested in various topics and when they have this interest, they love to read and learn about these topics they enjoy!
It will make a difference in my students' eyes by helping them learn to read with great, engaging books right at their fingertips!
It will also help them foster their love for reading and build upon loving the topics they are so engaged in!
