This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a Title I preschool and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of the students have a parent in the military. The children must meet at-risk criteria to attend this program. The criteria includes family income, identified disabilities, parent employment, and English proficiency.
I provide a creative classroom environment with materials in the learning centers that are empowering students through art.
I also provide science, technology, engineering, and math activities. I believe this will prepare all my students to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
My Project
Cooking projects are a big part of our program. We use the Curious Chef tools that are made especially for little hands. It is a great activity for preschoolers, to develop social skills and life skills as they work together to create something. We need a Curious Chef measuring kit to continue our projects.
Cooking provides hands-on experiences with math and science.
I tie many of the recipes to literature such as Stone Soup and The Little Red Hen. In the past we have made slow cooker applesauce, vegetable soup, pumpkin pie in a cup, rainbow fruit salad, and play dough. These projects need to be refrigerated or microwave to serve them properly.
Our current refrigerator has a broken seal, and mold spots and our microwave broke at the beginning of the year. We would love to make mini pizzas, purple cow milkshake, and dirt cake but our current situation does not allow us to cook any more. With this donation and storage center we can continue to make wonderful masterpieces that we can eat.
