Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth-grade bilingual students are hard workers and resilient. We are constantly working on ways to improve. This year one of our goals is to develop as writers by going through the writing process. My motivated students are second language learners who come from various Latin American countries. They come from supportive immigrant families who understand the value of an education.

My resilient students are focused every day and strive to become great writers.

They are goal-driven and are passionate about becoming successful. I want to ensure that they have enough opportunities for reaching their goals.

My Project

Colored writing paper, pencils, chart papers are the type of materials that my students need to become proficient writers. Daily, weekly and monthly, we produce a variety of writing pieces that all require them to go through the writing process.

My students are visual learners, who learn a lot when they see a sample on chart paper.

We discuss the elements of good writing as a whole, which in turn transfers over to their writing. My students use yellow writing paper to plan and draft their ideas. After that, they write a second draft on another sheet of paper. They patiently go through two drafts of a writing piece before they publish! These to me are the early signs of great writers!

My students enjoy the writing process because they are constantly allowed opportunities to revise and edit their writing. The yellow and blue writing paper will allow them to track their revisions easily. In addition, they can also see how their ideas have developed over the course of the writing process. Kids love to evaluate how much they've grown! Something as simple as colored paper, chart paper and pencils will make a world of a difference to my students.
