My Students

In our urban 6-8th grade school, we support an incredibly diverse group of young people. Our school hosts multiple cultural and ethnic groups. There are 88 separate languages spoken in our school district. In addition to language challenges, our school provides free or reduced-price lunch to more than 62% of our students.

My Project

Giving students the opportunity to create at their own pace allows them to strengthen and develop pathways in their brains. Students end up flexing "muscles" they didn't even know that they had. At the end of the lesson, they are energized and ready to continue learning.

Middle school students don't even realize they are working on concentration, spatial awareness, topic-specific knowledge, and problem solving skills when they are in the library manipulating pattern blocks and completing lego and stem challenges.

They simply feel like they are building and enjoying working with friends to complete a fun task.

Learning happens in many different ways, hands-on learning appeals to almost every student regardless of their academic "level".
