My students need hands-on building and engineering centers to have access to hands-on materials to make strong connections between what we are learning during reading/math to real-life like scenarios these centers create.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom consists of 17 students all 4 year old with amazing personalities. My students qualified for the EK program by showing a need in the areas of academics as well as social and emotional needs. We strongly believe that students need a well rounded education that not only focuses on the core academics but fosters the social/emotional needs for all students. Our classroom is a hands-on learning center! We teach the students sign language as an additional form of communication. The use of sign language in the classroom allows for the student to learn new vocabulary quickly as the student pairs a movement with a word.
My Project
The building brick STEM listed will assist the students in hands-on learning projects to keep their small hands fully engaged to better understand the concept at hand. We call these centers their "creation stations" where they can imagine, build, and create objects of their choosing. The students love to show off their creations to staff and other classmates. We are seeing a huge impact in engagement, imagination, team building, and critical thinking with student led centers at the creation stations. The more the students can explore and create the more engaging and exciting the classroom becomes!
The sensory play materials will allow the class to use all 5 of their senses to explore and discover the world around them in a unique way.
