Burton-Pack Elementary is a Title I school serving 525 students grades CD-5. There are a number of students identified as gifted and talented who will be involved in researched-based activities in readers and writers workshops. These students will be groomed as writers who see themselves as writers over the course of the school year. Since our school is Title I and lacks many of the resources needed to expose the students to the work of great writers, I am requesting materials to do author and genre studies so the students will be able to read and model after the crafts of these mentors. Authors such as Jane Yolen, Eloise Greenfield, and Laminack can help shape the writing lives of the 30 young readers I will be teaching this year. By having these books available in my classroom library, the students will not only be exposed to quality read-alouds, they can continue to peruse the books during independent reading time.
